For food contact materials or articles sold in France, in addition to complying with EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 requirements, they also need to comply with local French regulatory requirements, including French DGCCRF (France Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud) 2004-64 and French Décret n° 2007-76. France has special requirements not only for plastic and rubber products in contact with food, but also for metal products, such as: cookware with organic coating, in addition to the coating surface need to be tested , there are corresponding requirements for the metal as the base material.
French food grade plastic product requirements
Refer to EU Regulation EU No 10/2011, and domestic regulation French Law No 2012-1442 stipulates:
All plastic products (including organic coatings) that come into contact with food need to meet the BPA-free requirement (less than 0.1mg/kg).
French food grade special requirements for ceramics, glass, enamel and stoneware
Added 3 element requirements to 84/500/EEC
Al 0.9mg/kg; Co 0.02mg/kg, As cannot be detected
Added monitoring of 3 elements based on 84/500/EEC without setting limits
Ba, Ni, Cr
There are specific requirements for various metals and alloys that come into contact with food:
For uncoated metals, there are requirements for composition content;
For the coated metal, the underlying metal has the same requirements as the uncoated metal. In addition, the test requirements for general migration and special migration are added to the organic coating;
For metals with a metal plating layer, the underlying metal has the same requirements as those without plating. In addition, the plating layer needs to test the migration of heavy metals. The specific heavy metal elements to be tested depend on the material of the plating layer.
