Food contact materials refer to materials, containers and food processing tools that come into contact with food, and are sometimes referred to as food grade materials. GB 4806 series standards and GB 9685 are national mandatory standards, as long as food contact products sold in China must meet the corresponding requirements.

When materials, containers or tools come into contact with food, more or less harmful substances will be released. If too many harmful substances are released, it will have an important impact on human health. The plasticizer incident and the bisphenol A incident have become well-known health and safety incidents related to food contact materials. Therefore, all countries in the world have attached great importance to the safety of food contact materials, and adopted measures such as legislation and establishment of safety standards to ensure the hygiene and safety of food contact materials.
The current valid food contact material standards in China are GB 4806 series and GB 9685. The specific standard numbers corresponding to different materials are different. For details, see the evaluation standards below. These are all national mandatory standards, as long as food contact products sold in China must meet the corresponding requirements.
