SIRIM Certification Malaysia is the abbreviation for SIRIM Berhad, the Malaysian National Institute of Standards and Industrial Research, and is also a certification issued by the organization. It is the only authoritative certification body designated by the Malaysian government. SIRIM is the only certification management agency in Malaysia, and electronic products entering Malaysia require the application of SIRIM certification certificate. In principle, the applicant should be a local institution in Malaysia. The application and management of SIRIM certification are specifically handled by SIRIM QAS International, which issues SIRIM certificates.

1、 Certification purpose and scope of application

The core purpose of SIRIM certification is to ensure that products comply with Malaysia's safety, performance, and environmental regulations, thereby safeguarding consumer rights, enhancing market trust, and strengthening corporate competitiveness through standardized requirements. This certification is applicable to multiple fields, especially products in mandatory regulatory areas such as household appliances, batteries, etc.

The scope of mandatory certification includes:

1. Electronic and electrical equipment: such as household appliances (plugs, switches, sockets, fluorescent lamps, televisions, refrigerators, etc.), information technology equipment, audio and video equipment, lighting equipment, etc;

2. Communication equipment: such as mobile phones, telephones, wireless routers, etc;

3. Toys: such as children's toys, electric toys, etc;

4. Safety equipment: such as safety helmets, seat belts, fire extinguishers, etc;

5. Automotive components: such as tires, seat belts, brake pads, etc.

2、 Certification type

SIRIM certification mainly includes the following two types:

Type 1b (Batch Certification): Suitable for products imported in a single shipment, can only be applied for by the actual importer and does not require factory inspection.

Type 5 (Product Certification): Suitable for long-term export products, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and importers can apply. This type of certification requires factory inspection and the certificate is valid for 1 year after the initial audit is approved. The following year, not only do factories need to be audited, but warehouses in Malaysia also need to be audited.

3、 Certification process and key steps

Data preparation and application: Applicants need to prepare detailed product information, including product manuals, design drawings, test reports (such as CB reports), and ISO9001 quality management documents, and fill out the SIRIM certification application form.

Laboratory testing: The laboratory designated by the certification body will conduct electrical safety testing (withstand voltage, leakage, insulation performance) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing (radiation and anti-interference ability) on the applied product.

Factory audit: For the production quality system, check the QC process, production line consistency, and trademark authorization documents.

Report review and decision-making: The certification body reviews laboratory test reports to confirm whether the product meets relevant certification standards. Based on the evaluation and audit results, the certification body will make a decision and issue the SIRIM certification certificate.

Annual supervision: To ensure that products continue to meet standards, certification bodies will conduct annual supervision. Failure to pass supervision will result in the invalidation of certification.

4、 Special requirements and precautions

The use of CB report: If the product holds an IEC standard CB report (within its validity period), the certification process can be simplified. However, it should be noted that the report version requires the addition of local testing projects in Malaysia.

Certification label management: Products that have passed certification must purchase SIRIM labels and attach them. The labels cannot be copied by oneself and must be purchased from SIRIM institutions.

Cost and Cycle: Certification fees vary depending on the complexity of the product, typically ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of RMB. The certification cycle is about 4-12 weeks, but may be extended when it involves factory audits or supplementary testing.
